What’s on Your Plate? (2018)
A three part short film exploring the parallels between various social issues through comedic and experimental film.
Part 1 and 3 shot on the Sony FS7, Part 2 shot on the iPhone 6 Plus
My Role: Director, Writer, Cinematographer, Editor (cut, colour, graphics), Actor - In collab with Carri Chen and Tristan Sauer.
Rationale
This film is about my experience of going vegan when I was 15 years old, but it’s not just mine, it’s an overarching depiction of the typical transition to the life style.
I was mocked in high school for being vegan especially when I first mentioned the idea, but that didn’t matter, all I could think about is all the things I could no longer overlook, the realities I couldn't run away from anymore.
The universality in this experience is a key reason as to why the co-creators (Tristan, Carri) and I chose to show this through three micro shorts, each with different styles and actors. It’s about a world shift, the cusp of a revolution.
In a way, the purpose of "What’s on Your Plate?" is to allude to other social issues that we care about enormously, as they apply to our lives as well, while pointing out that animal agriculture is an overlooked topic in contrast. This is done through the different titles within the parts and the graphics that go along with them.
